In Gleason’s world, the Vamps are not the sexy heroes. She lets nothing stop her, even when something really should. I had a great time reading this book and thought it was even better than the first book in the series. I received a review copy of this book from Avid Press via Edelweiss.
As a Venator, otherwise known as a vampire hunter, she has much more strength then a normal woman. Sebastian shows a bit more empathy, though there is still plenty of his sarcastic, cocky humor. That isn’t to say that romance, and even a bit of sex, isn’t there, but it isn’t a necessity.

The book is well written and easy to read. Another annoying question is why Max hates Victoria so aggressively. This installment is frustrating and thrilling. I did not ship Victoria with her new love interest, not in the slightest.

The chemistry between the characters was also really well done and a bit of a surprise.

Join the mailing list. I thought I had found a new series to love and devour, but I guess it is not to be. The last 50 pages of the book were excellent and make the book worth reading. Rises the night was all over the place story-wise and seemed to move at a snails pace so I found it hard to stay interested eises times.
With numerous twists, [Gleason] leaves you hanging, eagerly awaiting the next installment. As I mentioned in my review of the first book, think of this series as Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Pride and Prejudice. And can she save Max? Plus, the evil she faces has much grimmer implications that give the tale an extra injection of darkness.
This second installment was great. But not in rses obvious way. Book 2 in the Gardella Vampire chronicles.
Vampire hunters in Regency-era England? Rome and Venice allowed Victoria even more freedom as a woman and I also liked the description of the cities.
