Really, it was sluggish and slow for the first pages. Neil Shusterman has an uncanny imagination and the new world he has brought to life is a very different take on what happens after you die. nexl
On the other hand, I also continually wondered at the appeal to these enal readers based on the way Shusterman presented his ideas on the afterlife of dead children. As I said before, Everlost was extremely tame compared to my previous Shusterman experience. Nick receives the nickname “Chocolate Ogre” because of the chocolate stain on his face, and Mary spreads rumors about how he sends Afterlights away by luring them in with the smell of chocolate. Well written and the teen heroes are less annoying and better written than many others I’ve read. This book taught me the importance of trying shisterman find your way to where you’re going no matter what the challenges or obstacles you’re faced with.
Even when the story handles very serious matters that scared and creep Everlost reminded me of several books I felt rather lukewarm about – ElsewhereLord of the Flies and Gone. The afterlights for the shsterman part cannot interact with the real world and will sink to the Earth’s core if they stay still. In Everlost, by Neal Shusterman, both Nick and Allie experience death for themselves; they throw each other off the right track and end up in a mid-zone–Everlost.
There, they meet Mary Hightower, the “mother” of Afterlights who keeps many Afterlights safe, and is the author everloost hundreds of books about living in Everlost.
When Nick and Allie make it to the Twin Towers, they find Mary, who calls herself the queen of lost children. I’ve read Neal Shusterman before, but that didn’t leave me prepared for this.
Its all very well thought out and extremely well done. Hopefully this leads to a lot of character development in the next book.
Degrees in both psychology and drama give Neal a unique approach to eerlost. They can interact with certain objects that are loved so much by their owners that, when the object breaks, it crosses over to Everlost, unbroken, and is given a place there for eternity. Allie outsmarts the McGill, who is unmasked by Mary and returned to the form of a human boy when Mary shows a picture of him.
Eventually, Allie decided to go her own way and convinced Nick and Lief to come with her. It’s simple, different and I just adore it. I suppose that is backwards, but there seemed to be something vulnerable about him.

I kind of like the side characters in this book more than the main characters, to be honest. Other than these few flaws, I found the book enjoyable and the creativity displayed in this book is brilliant. Neal Shusterman has created a never-before-seen world that includes adventure and fantasy.
