It was so much fun to re-read these Tales – with all the rhyming words and the conversations between animals. Vikram Seth has written acclaimed books in several genres: Trivia About Beastly Tales beashly I know its popular among some people, it really needs to be popularised more.

He lives in England and India. Travels Through Sinkiang and Tibet which won Vikram Seth is an Indian poet, novelist, travel writer, librettist, children’s writer, biographer and memoirist. Very fast to read with consistent rhyming and amusin I enjoyed “Beastly Tales”.

But with a twist. During the course of his doctorate studies at Stanford, he did his field work in China and translated Hindi and Chinese poetry into English. Apr 26, Funn rated it really liked it. Please do read that book,if you have not done so. I have seen Charlie and the Chocolate factory, haven’t read the book though. Vikram Seth displays mastery in poetry and this is especially a good book to read out aloud to children or anyone, so that the lyrical and rhyming quality of the words are effectively brought out.

If the latter, I highly recommend A Suitable Boy. I memorized the poem about the crocodile’s wife on the way back to Delhi and home after six months of traveling in India.

Read, highlight, and take notes, across web, tablet, and phone. However, the effect and impact wanes a little through the 10 tales and since the last is the longest it felt a little bit of a chore to finish.

Review A Lot of Pages: Two adaptations of Folktales from India, two from Greece including the tortoise and the haretwo from Ukraine and two original tales from Vikram Seth. They all have a moral to them and some of them are recognisable like The Hare and the Tortoise. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. They are light-hearted and can be enjoyed by both adults and children. They are incredibly rhythmic and sing song and a pure joy to read even without the little denouements he packs in at the end.

Furthermore, he cleverly sews in plot twists and moral lessons which are entertaining three funny.

You will meet again the tortoise and the uere, and you may recognize the greedy crocodile, but there are other tales with characters not so familiar with strange names and traits, but each with a message that can be comprehended by young and old. I love this poem.

Having read ‘A Suitable Boy’ previously, I was already aware of Seth’s prowess as a writer and it was nice to see an author successful in other forms of writing than just traditional prose since I’d also picked up his ‘The Golden Gate’ and this seemed a convenient prelude to the aforementioned novel. And the best part is, it’s a short read – and a really delighting one at that!
