I don’t know why she even bothered with this Is she trying to highlight how the world is full of predatory men who use women and then disappear? If we need to be technical, this is a slice of life. Embroideries starts out with Marjane Satrapi and her family and friends sitting down with their drinks to devote themselves to their favorite activity: It’s about the thrill of secrets, the fear of being caught and the brief taste of freedom that comes along with living in such uncertain times.
So, you know, no plot. Wasn’t quite sure either the complexities of what she was trying to say about feminism vs treatment of women in the Middle East. The scene is a group of women, most related; taking a tea break after serving a lunch, then cleaning up and while the men folk sleep it off- The women talk, gossip and tell secrets. They made thousands of kids. Can be read in less than 45 minutes.
Sex is what this book is all about. So when I found Embroideries at a second-hand bookshop, I thought I’d give it a try.
Thanks for telling us about the problem. Datrapi was quite easy to relate to these women and their way of talking – gossip, after all, is the same all around the world. I’ll make a small commission! She a Marjane Satrapi Persian: Well all that is for his wife. While I like the idea of weaving together these overheard conversations, I couldn’t get past the gay-comic-relief bits.
It’s certainly the kind of book that will rub a lot of people’s arbitrary sensibilities the wrong way, and the troll in me applauds Satrapi for this act of daring alone. Brilliant, illuminating and witty, a glimpse into the inner workings of sex in a culture that is often seen as private and closed to the western eye.

I couldn’t really figure out what Ms. In contrast, Satrapi’s figures float on a white background and are only drawn in two poses, in profile or facing fully forward, contributing to the feeling of flatness. Read Persepolis, skip this one. Her grandmother was as wise as ever.
But the illustrations are great, as usual. While the story left a lot to be desired, the drawings are wonderful. This was definitely the worst of the Satrapi books that I have read.
This is why I adored Marji’s mother in Persepolis 2. According to her autobiographical graphic novel, Persepolis, she stayed in Vienna through her high school years, staying in friends’ homes, but spent three months living on the streets.
