Blade of Fortriu (The Bridei Chronicles, #2) by Juliet Marillier
After getting to know Drustan, Ana cannot help but try to find out the truth about his imprisonment. A superbly written sage of love, friendship, betrayal and war. Alpin is a savage and an abusive ruler. Thanks for telling us about the problem. The title should be at least 4 characters long. I enjoyed the beginning of the book – it had an interesting premise, especially with Ana and her journey to have an arranged marriage to this chieftan Alpin for purposes of a treaty.
I loved Faolan beyond words, really. He was not unnecessarily described to be toughest and the best of the lot, he was just the most worthy to become king. The love triangle, which I’ve never seen from Marillier before, added an additional element to the story.

Why can I not read this book? But she is betrothed to this barbaric, sexist oaf named Alpin and then – to top all of this off, she falls in love with Alpin supposedly crazy brother Drustan.
She also has four adult children and seven grandchildren. This puts Alpin on alert and suddenly Ana and Faolan, not to mention Drustan, are fighting for their lives and freedom.

Agora, as portas desse mundo voltam a gridei. The relationship between Bridei and Tuala was very sweet, but it was the secondary characters that really piqued my interest. To ask other readers questions about The Dark Mirrorplease sign up.

I am very into romance. It’s like A Tale of Two Cities except without any symbolism whatsoever. I was literally soaking in every word, and felt like I was riding into the throng of the fighting. The narrative was completely weighed down by melodrama and clunky exposition. For fantasy enthusiasts looking for a clever, interesting, well-written story that lets you fall in love with the characters, lets you respect the characters, and gives you time to enjoy the characters and root for their success, I highly recommend The Dark Mirror by Juliet Birdei.
Although an interesting second book in this series, it wasn’t quite as gripping as the first- the action took a bit long, the repetitive comments and hand-wringing made it less fast-paced and more depressing, especially with the emotional triangle going on.
Five winters have passed since young king Bridei ascended the throne of Fortriu. That is until her journey is far from smooth sailing and she arrives at Briar Wood to find Alpin a big, crude, and secretive man who keeps both Ana and Faolan guessing hridei to his true motives. I will caution that this is a very “wordy” book: The Well of Shades Bridei Chronicles.
Foxmask Children of the Light Isles series. You can’t get away from Him, no matter how hard you try.
