But people of Lumatere won’t give up easily – Finnikin of the Rock, Evanjalin of the Novices and Sir Topher travel to find the lost heir to the throne, prince Balthazar. As a story of a displaced, broken nation that fights to rebuild itself Finnikin of the Rock is almost without a flaw.


Now I know she can also deliver full-detailed settings. One character tried to rape another character, so they got pissed and sold him off to be a slave and probably get raped.

Though make no mistake, the romance was good and there were more than one occasion when I felt some swelling in my heart over characters being reunited and truths being revealed. There’s so much to say about the plot and yet I’m feeling as I’ve already said too much. I guess everyone else is seeing something in it that I’m just missing. Marchettta hated it and could not stomach it at any point in time. These connections make Finnikin, Sir Topher and Evanjalin open up on their pasts, life experiences and fears.

I’m having a hard time pinning down what I didn’t like about this story.

This book takes a little bit to actually get going and took me about pages to fully get into it, but when it gets good it gets so good. At the age of nine, Finnikin received a prophecy from the gods that warned him about the destruction of his homeland Lumatere. This is my second time and i love it as much as i did back then.

And that their cursed people will be able to enter Lumatere and be reunited with those ka inside. And then the focus on rape. Melina Marchetta never ever wastes characters. And it doesn’t matter that he was with this terrible cold and nothing else to do, he enjoyed it, we talked about it, and for some reason this makes me so damn happy and giddy.
