I don’t recommend this book for people unfamiliar with the work of these saints, because Dubay assumes that his audience is already familiar with spiritual concepts like ‘infused prayer’ and wihhin union. Utterly of the spirit.
Dubay is a MUST read for anyone serious about cultivating their faith and making sure that our lives become thomqs with our beliefs. He began to respond to invitations from all over the country to direct retreat programs for seminarians, cloistered monasteries of both men and women, parish congregations, lay associations, new religious orders in their infancy, hermits, prison inmates, and many, many others.
My favorite chapters in this book are the ones dealing with Friendship and Spiritual Direction. Growing up Catholic, prayer was vocal and formulaic. I’ve only read the first three chapters, but so far I’ve enjoyed it more than many spiritual books. God created our senses so that He can be more known and loved through them. They point to nothing but what the Gospel already promises.
