They can be nifty – though some folks mention they’ve had noise problems IIRC it’s got a pretty high current draw – maybe it’s PS dependent it’s got a korf feature set The predelay I wouldn’t hold out so much as a multi-tap which is what you are thinking of with “tape delay”it doesn’t regen – but rather is nice to keep the echos from “stepping on” the phrase you are playing BUT it can give you some “compound rhythmic” feel as you can put the regularly repating echos offset from the dry.

I am having fun with other delays but the dl served me well for many years. Thanks a million for the opinions and offers to help. Fantastically versatile for a pedal, this could be stretched into a rack piece and be worth the slot. Plus the added bonus of being able to store two different delay settings to toggle between, and basically 8 different adjustments including ducking, hi-fi, lo-fi I find that quite often when I’m reviewing some pedals, I remark at how much I like the ease of use, and how I find the manual unnecessary.
There is also a switch that switches between Hi-fi and Lo-fi settings, which comes into play depending on whether or not you use humbuckers or single-coil pickups. The predelay makes it look like it has tape heads.

The dl is a nice delay with some interesting features and a few weak spots.

I would say that if you are interested, definitely try it with a power supply as opposed to a battery. But you can save your settings. I’ve got one and it still gets a turn on my board from time to time. If I had a negative comment it would be that it can come off sounding like a simulation of echo.
