While the same familiar characters are there harried Wendy, cool calm Nico, and cute Victorythey seem a lot more career-focused and more ruthless than their TV show counterparts. Very obviously by Candace Bushnell. He honestly screwed himself as he had lost his youth and his wife was very giving in the bedroom to make up for her MIA status as parent. While managing work, family, and romantic relationships, the women predictably learn that friendship is the most important thing. For example, in the novel Wendy is very overwhelmed with her responsibilities at work and struggles a lot more with achieving a perfect work-family balance than she does in the TV show.

Aug 25, Raquel Bernardes rated it it was ok Shelves: Lipstick Jungle was a bit hard to follow due to the fact that per chapter, Bushnell jumps from character to charter. Victory, a very successful fashion designer, is older and only a little bit flighty; she shows the scars of a woman who has had to fight for her place in the world.

How do high-powered careers affect a woman’s relationship with her husband and family? Wendy, Nico, and Victory are not a cohesive unit. Well written, not full of male bashing, and fascinating characters. I’m also lucky enough to have a couple of girlfriends who are top designers, who offered to help me out with the specific details. Hopefully Bushnell’s next book will be even better. The characters had no redeeming value, so much so that instead of rooting for the characters I was happy to see bad things happen to them.
